It’s obvious from the sewage scandal that the privatisation of water has been a massive failure.

The Government has the brass neck to tell us that the private companies which control our Victorian water and sewage systems can’t afford to do an upgrade. Yet they those companies have managed to afford handing out £132 billion to their shareholders.

Essential public utilities like water should be democratically controlled and owned, and run in a way that is transparent and accountable to the people of this country.

Although I couldn’t speak in the debate today because I am Glasgow for COP26, I raised this issue in Parliament last week during the debate on the Budget. You can watch what I had to say in this video.
