Banks must meet the social challenge of climate change

An issue I've been looking at in my role as Shadow Treasury Minister is how banks must meet the social challenge of climate change.

The major banks have a long way to go before they meet this challenge. A decade on from the crash, our financial sector must keep a clear view of potential future crises, including the potentially heavy financial costs of climate change.

The next Labour Government will help ensure all our major institutions take account of the environment by factoring in the costs of climate change and environmental damage to official forecasts. Labour will provide long-term financing for renewable and high tech energy projects that will create the good, secure jobs of the future.
