#ScraptheCap: my thoughts
Yesterday evening, The Labour Party's motion to remove the NHS staff pay cap was passed. It's about time those who work so hard to look after us get a pay rise. Now, Labour will be pushing to make sure this is actually delivered.
It has also been announced this week that police officers will have their pay cap lifted (see my post from earlier today: https://www.facebook.com/labourclivelewis/posts/1485075944902541). I welcome this move, but the extra money will be coming out of the existing pay budget - and this budget hasn’t been increased. I’ve been told this is therefore likely to have implications on the number of officers in Norwich and Norfolk. The Tories are effectively robbing Peter to pay Paul. What’s more, the pay rise given to police staff will be greater than that afforded to NHS staff: another attempt by this government to ‘divide and rule’.
The Tories need to make sure public sector workers all get the pay rise they deserve *and* that funding is available so staff levels don’t have to be slashed in order for this to happen.
