Yesterday, I met and spoke with European nationals who were at parliament for #CitizensLobby17. In my hands, you can see a copy of ‘In Limbo: Brexit testimonies from EU citizens in the UK’: an insightful collection of testimonies from some of those who will be most affected by last June’s ‘leave’ result – despite not being allowed a say on the matter at that time.
As I said to the group yesterday:
“I’m prepared to fight, but I also want to see a campaign that isn’t just about court cases, which isn’t just about saying we were lied to – as true as that is – but is also about communicating to people, a wider tranche of the public, that Brexit – a hard Brexit – is the wrong answer. But to do that, we’re going to have to communicate with people and communities. And that’s going to take more than we’ev currently done so far. So ultimately, that’s where I stand – that’s my position. I’m here to support you because all of you that have come here today: you’ve come to this country, you’ve made your lives here. You are our neighbours and families.”
You can watch the speech I made below (with thanks to Joan Pons Laplanafor the video).
